The lightning strike of 2006

The chapel at West Street re-opened for Sunday morning services on 13th August. Apart from repairing the damage caused by the lightning strike on June 12th, some additional and necessary work was carried out to strengthen the roof at a cost of approximately £1000 to Chapel Funds. This work was unrelated to the storm damage but was necessary because of weakness in the roof. With the scaffolding already in place and a contribution from Methodist Insurance, who provided the other £1000 needed, it became a economical way of securing the safety and value of the building.

Everyone concerned with the Church Council who worked so quickly together and led by the Rev Andrew Prout are to be congratulated that the church was only out of use for a day over two months. This was a tremendous achievement for which all members of the church were extremely grateful.

The damaged part of the church is covered up
so that repair work can start

Until repairs are complete, Sunday morning services will be held  at North Common Village Hall and evening services in the schoolroom. Let's hope these covers work during the recent heavy showers!
